Make your screen android Auto warn you of speed cameras when you're on the road: we explain two simple methods to reach you, taking advantage of Google Maps and Waze. Additionally, we have also highlighted other apps that offer the alerts that you can try as well; Always be cautious: having speed camera alerts available does not prevent fines or alert you to all speed controls on the road.
Point-to-point GPS navigation is critical in a vehicle operating system like Android Auto. And, as this navigation offers warnings based on incidents and points of interest, it is also possible to activate radar alerts so that Android Auto notifies you of known landlines and cell phones. To do this, simply use a compatible app after configuring the radar warnings: both Google Maps and Waze work perfectly for the task.
Applications to improve photo quality
As Android Auto is nothing more than a projection of your cell phone onto the car's screen (very unlike Android Automotive, which is native to the vehicle), everything you have on your smartphone ends up being transferred to the console. This applies to supported multimedia apps, messaging apps, and of course GPS navigation apps.
Two of the most important apps that have been on Android Auto since the beginning are Google Maps and Waze. Both from Google and both with fixed speed camera alerts. The first offers all the speed cameras reported by Traffic; the second also adds alerts reported by Waze users. In our experience, Waze is a better option to Android Auto, at least when it comes to speed cameras. And always legally.
Let's see how speed camera alerts are configured on Google Maps and Waze to also have warnings on the Android Auto screen.
Speed camera alert on Android Auto with Google Maps
This application collects all radars officially communicated by the General Directorate of Traffic. For it to notify Android Auto, the following process must be carried out:
- Open Google Maps on the phone you use with Android Auto.
- Click on the top right icon with your avatar and select “Settings”.
- Go to “Navigation Settings” and make sure “Sound On” is checked. It is recommended to set the volume to “+High”.
- By default, Google Maps will alert you when you approach a registered speed camera. You do not need to do anything else.
Speed camera alert on Android Auto with Waze
- Open Waze on the phone you use with Android Auto.
- Click on “My Waze” and go to settings: top gear icon.
- Go to “Alerts and warnings”.
- Type “Alerts” and select “Show on map” and “Warn while driving” in the two speed camera menus.
- Go back to the main settings and go to “Sound and voice”.
- Make sure you have the correct voice selected and that “Request Volume” is turned on.
With the two previous apps, you'll have alerts for nearby speed cameras on your Android Auto: your car's screen will notify you when you're approaching one, as long as the navigation app is running. We recommend that you use Waze: in addition to being much more complete, the community is constantly adding incidents on the road, including speed cameras. It's much better than Google Maps.
