What is the Brazilian Cup?

The football competition known as the Copa do Brasil is held in Brazil and follows a direct elimination format, similar to the English and Spanish cups.

Considered the most inclusive competition in Brazilian football, the Copa do Brasil is made up of seven distinct stages: first phase, second phase, third phase, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

In the first phase, eighty teams participate in the tournament. The winning teams advance to the second phase, where they once again compete in a single game, seeking the opportunity to progress to the next phase.

The third phase marks the direct entry of the twelve main clubs in Brazil, such as Flamengo, Palmeiras and Atlético Mineiro. From then on, the Copa do Brasil is played in home and away matches, culminating in the grand final.

How to watch Copa do Brasil

Via TV

There are three options for fans to watch the Copa do Brasil games on television. The first option is to watch on free-to-air TV, on Globo, which holds the broadcasting rights with final validation from the CBF. From the third phase onwards, when the big teams enter the competition, the broadcaster broadcasts up to two games per phase, spread across different states. It is free and available throughout Brazil.

Globo's main narrators, such as Luís Roberto, Cléber Machado and Rogério Corrêa, and the commentators, are chosen for each match.

The second option is SporTV, which is only available through pay TV operators. The channel broadcasts up to three games per stage at different times during the week. Since Globo cannot broadcast all the games on free-to-air TV, SporTV is responsible for broadcasting the games that were not chosen by the broadcaster. SporTV and SporTV 2 will broadcast the games live throughout Brazil, with commentators such as Gustavo Villani, Everaldo Marques, Luiz Carlos Jr and Milton Leite.

Finally, the third option is Premiere, also only available through pay TV operators. The channel broadcasts all Copa do Brasil games live and in HD, including games that have already been broadcast by Globo and SporTV. Fans can choose between narrations and commentary from a variety of narrators and commentators.

An alternative available on pay TV is the Premiere pay-per-view service. However, as the name suggests, this service can only be accessed for an additional monthly fee.

To access the channel package, fans must contact their pay TV operator and purchase it. Each platform offers different prices for the service.

Premiere, like SporTV, also shows a large number of Copa do Brasil games, especially those that are not broadcast by Globo.

Online

The Copa do Brasil broadcast can be watched on mobile devices or computers through the GloboPlay and Amazon Prime streaming platforms. The GloboPlay streaming service is the first option for fans, where Globo programming can be watched for free, even for non-subscribers.

However, the service works according to the user's location, meaning that residents of São Paulo will watch programming from the state of São Paulo on GloboPlay. For those who have the SporTV and Premiere channels, it is possible to watch the channels exclusively. Just tune in to the app on your cell phone, tablet, computer or smart TV, or even access the website on your computer.

The new feature this season is the Amazon Prime Video streaming service, which shows up to three matches per round of the Copa do Brasil for all of Brazil. However, like the other services, Prime Video only works for subscribers. For R$14.90 per month or R$119 per year, fans have access to the programming of films, series, documentaries and Copa do Brasil games to watch whenever they want. The Amazon Prime team of narrators is made up of Rômulo Mendonça, Marcelo Gomes, Estevan Ciccone and Roby Porto.
